Title IX Notice of Nondiscrimination

The Richwoods R-VII School District (District) is committed to maintaining a working and learning environment that is free from discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment. In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) and its implementing regulations, the District does not discriminate on the basis of sex in any of its education programs or activities.

Title IX’s nondiscrimination requirements apply to all aspects of the District’s operations, including admissions and employment. Any inquiries regarding the application of Title IX and its regulations may be directed to the District’s Title IX Coordinator, Ginny Mitchell, or the District’s Compliance Officer, Lindell Conway.

The District is dedicated to fostering an environment in which all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. If any District policy or procedure addressing discrimination or harassment on the basis of sex conflicts with Title IX or its regulations, Title IX and its regulations will prevail.

About Title IX

Title IX is a federal civil rights law that states:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is responsible for enforcing Title IX.

While Title IX is widely recognized for expanding opportunities for women and girls in athletics, it also requires schools to adopt and follow specific grievance procedures to address formal complaints of sexual harassment as defined by federal regulations.

The District’s policies and procedures for addressing reports and complaints of sex-based discrimination—including sexual harassment—are designed to comply fully with Title IX and its regulations. In the event of any conflict, Title IX and its regulations will take precedence.
